Ignition Interlock Devices
If you were convicted of a DUI in the state of Florida, you may lose your license. Upon getting your license back, an ignition interlock device may be installed in your vehicle. An ignition interlock device is a small machine that you must breathe into every time you drive. It records your BAC to make sure you are not drinking and driving. Recordings of your BAC are sent to the Florida DMV.
Responsibilities of the Defendant
If you were convicted of a DUI and recently had your license reinstated, you will carry several responsibilities as the defendant. There are costs associated with installing the ignition interlock device in your car, and there is a monthly rental fee that you must cover as well. In addition, you must have the device calibrated monthly at your local DMV. Read more about ignition interlock devices at the Florida Department of Motor Vehicle's site.
