If You Have Been Arrested
It is important to remain calm if the authorities arrest you. Remember that you have rights and you do not have to answer any questions without an attorney present. In fact, it is in your best interest to request a lawyer and then to exercise your right to remain silent. Even casual conversation with an officer could result in additional criminal charges. The consequences of a criminal conviction can follow you for years or even decades. The severity of criminal charges usually depend on factors such as circumstances of the incident, use of weapons, bodily injuries suffered by the alleged victims and the defendant’s prior criminal record.
