The school has been investigating the allegations of inappropriate communications that took place between the teacher and student. O’Brien was a chemistry teacher at the time.
Police say that O’Brien was exchanging pictures and videos to a male student on Snapchat. The student told detectives that the videos showed the teacher rubbing his penis on the outside of his pants and O’Brien would ask the student to lower his camera on himself. O’Brien has been charged with felony on scene communications, using a computer service to seduce a child, and more. O’Brien was told to stay away from the victim and all schools, and has been barred from using the Internet at this time.
Tallahassee Seduction of a Child LawsCrimes involving children are taken seriously under Florida law because children are unable to protect themselves from the harm that an adult could cause. Under Florida law, it is illegal to seduce or entice a child over a computer, which is exactly what happened in this particular case. This includes any type of seduction that could be made over social media. The state prosecutor will work one of these cases to show that the defendant used a computer to contact a child and solicited or seduced them in some way. From there, felony charges and a variety of serious penalties could result.
