Sarasota, FL – Nanny Arrested for Child Abuse After Bruises Found on Children

April 17, 2019

Sarasota, FL (April 17, 2019) – Yesterday, 25-year-old Sarai Rivera was arrested for child abuse after a couple came home and found bruises all over their young children.

Both the 2-year-old and 8-month-old that had been entrusted to Rivera’s care were admitted to the Sarasota Memorial Hospital after their parents came home to find that they had been bruised on the neck and face.

The parents immediately questioned Rivera, who said that the boy had thrown a toy at the girl and the girl gave the boy a “hickey” by kissing him too hard. The children were taken to the hospital for a medical examination. Under this examination, detectives discovered that the marks were consistent with intentional grabbing and pinching. Police said that the bruises were not accidental.

Rivera spoke with detectives and told them that she was adjusting to medication to cope with depression and that she was prone to ‘snapping’ or becoming irritable. She also admitted that she had been drinking alcohol that was left at the parent’s home while she was supposed to be watching the children.

Rivera finally confessed that the baby started screaming and she wasn’t able to calm her down, then grabbing her chin out of frustration. She also admitted that the whipped the infant’s face with a towel and “sucked” the boy’s neck.

Rivera has since been arrested on two counts of child abuse.
