Joseph R. Johnson, Esq., became interested in criminal law in 1983, while attending Indiana University. He started working for the Indiana University Police Department and received training to become an Indiana Certified law enforcement officer. Mr. Johnson patrolled the campus and worked at special events. Mr. Johnson majored in criminal justice and received a Bachelor of Science from Indiana University in 1985. In 1986, Mr. Johnson moved to Florida and became a Florida State Trooper. He had to attend the Florida Highway Patrol’s Academy in Tallahassee for several months to become a Florida Certified law enforcement. As a Florida State Trooper, Mr. Johnson investigated many accidents, made DUI arrests, and arrests for a variety of other offenses.

Mr. Johnson resigned from the Florida Highway Patrol in 1990 to attend law school at Nova University (now called Nova Southeastern) in Fort Lauderdale. He finished law school in the summer of 1993 with a Certified Legal Internship at the State Attorney’s Office in Orlando. Mr. Johnson then became an Assistant State Attorney for nearly 3 years, working in Sanford, Orlando, and Kissimmee, Florida.

In November of 1996, Joseph R. Johnson, Esq., went into private practice. He has worked almost exclusively in the field of criminal defense ever since. Mr. Johnson is a member of the Florida, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Mr. Johnson has represented either the State of Florida or an individual client in more than 150 jury trials.

Mr. Johnson married his wife, Aurora, in 1997. They have four boys. Aurora’s first language was Spanish and she helped Joseph become fluent in Spanish.
