Thornton and the woman were together for a year and lived together. Around 1 a.m. in the morning on Sunday, police say that Thornton got angry that the woman wanted to go to church with someone that he didn’t like, which made the conversation escalate into a scene of violence. Thornton then punched the woman twice in her mouth.
While they were fighting, Thornton grabbed a knife, which he used to intimidate and threaten the woman. When Thornton later asked the woman to have sex, she declined him, which is when he raped her. Thornton denied the woman’s accusations, but was booked on sexual battery and false imprisonment charges.
