Police immediately smelled marijuana in the vehicle when they approached the car. The passenger said that he smoked pot earlier but denied having it with him. However, officers searched him and found that he was hiding 8 grams of pot in his groin area. From there, police searched the rest of the vehicle and found a loaded firearm under the seat with a magazine in a book bag on the floor.
The passenger admitted that he was a convicted felon and shouldn’t have had the weapon in his possession. The driver said that the pot and gun belonged to the passenger. The pair had their 2-year-old child sleeping in the back of the vehicle, who was not inside a legal car seat.
The man was arrested and taken to jail, while the woman was given citations for speeding and not having the child in a proper seat. She was able to get a car seat out of the back of the vehicle and secured the child, and was then permitted to leave the scene.
