Gainesville, FL (April 16, 2019) – Police reported that a man identified as 50-year-old Tony Johnson was arrested for DUI after he struck a patrol car while drunk and fled the scene. Police also confirmed that there were children in his vehicle at the time.

Alachua County Sheriff’s patrol deputies charged Johnson with three counts of DUI, fleeing the scene of a DUI accident resulting in damage, driving without a registered license plate, and driving without a license following the incident.

At the time, police say that Johnson was approaching a red light at the intersection of SW 75th Street and SW 8th Avenue when he suddenly crashed into the back of a patrol car that had been stopped at the time. He then reversed and made a U-turn, according to the report. The deputy turned on his siren and followed him.

Johnson then pulled his truck into the Sparrow Condominiums parking lot where two officers were able to confront him. The officers noticed that Johnson had glassy and bloodshot eyes and a strong smell of alcohol on his breath. He performed several sobriety tests and failed all of them.

Police confirmed that there were also three children in Johnson’s truck who were between the ages of 3 and 5. They immediately arrested Johnson and took him to the Alachua County Jail.
