PENSACOLA, FL (October 20, 2019) - Pnj.com writes that a 53-year-old man from Pensacola is facing 21 counts of possession of child pornography along with one count for possession of a controlled substance.

The suspect was arrested last week and is being held at the Escambia County Jail. The investigation followed the discovery of child pornography on the internet. The investigators obtained a search warrant and conducted forensic work on the USB storage devices at the suspect’s home. The detectives found 21 images, including ones depicting children around five years old. The search also revealed a bag of methamphetamine in the man’s home.

The investigation is still underway with the possibility of additional charges being filed if more images are discovered.

In the state of Florida, possession of child pornography is considered a Third-Degree Felony. This means that those convicted of this crime can face sentences of up to 5 years in prison, along with another 5 years’ probation, and a fine of $5,000. A person in possession of four or more images will face mandatory prison time of at least twelve months. For people with more than four images, each additional image can lead to another four months added to the sentence. Based on this, a person with 5 images would face a 16-month sentence. Possessing ten or more images can upgrade the crime to aggravated possession of child pornography. The content of the images can also increase penalties. Images of children below the age of 5, images depicting sadomasochistic abuse, sexual battery, bestiality, and any movie will also upgrade the crime to aggravated possession of child pornography. Aggravated possession of child pornography carries a sentence of up to 15 years in prison, along with 15 years’ probation and $10,000 in fines.
