Jacksonville, Florida (Duval County) - A news article posted on news4jax.com states that two suspects are currently facing murder charges in the tragic shooting death of a Jacksonville man who was killed during an attempted robbery gone wrong. According to court records, law enforcement officers said the killing might have been a result of a botched arm robbery. The suspects, a 21-year-old man and a 29-year-old man, were arrested in the murder of a 34-year-old man who was shot to death back in February 2020. The fatal shooting occurred at the Mandarin condominium complex, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. The 21-year-old suspect is being held without bond at the Duval County jail after his arrest on April 19, 2021. He is facing charges of second-degree murder and armed robbery.

According to court records cited in the news report, the second suspects who were arrested and placed in custody back in December 2020 already pled not guilty to the same criminal charges.

According to the news report citing the arrest reports, surveillance camera video captured the moments leading to the shooting. The surveillance camera footage shows one of the suspects walking up to an SUV and getting inside before the two men who are holding flashlights ran up behind the victim. One of the suspects ran around to the driver's side door, open the victim's door, and then attacked the victim, who fought back. The video then shows the victim being shot several times at a close range of the victim.

Please recovered a cell phone, dry cigarette butts, and the Ziploc bag of marijuana close to the crime scene. According to the arrest warrant, the cigarette butts were sent to the state lab for DNA testing, and the results were a match for one of the suspects. Law enforcement downloaded information off the cell phone and determined the cell phone belongs to one of the suspects, also named by an anonymous tip concerning the murder. Several witnesses implicated one of the suspects in the fatal shooting, according to the arrest warrant. One witness stated that the suspect appears to have panicked and then shot the victim after getting kicked in the face. Another witness told law enforcement that they heard the suspect in another man planning to rob the victim of his jewelry and money. That same witness stated that he overheard the suspect admitting to the fatal shooting afterward and explaining how he took apart the gun and ditched the pieces in several ponds. That suspect denied knowing about the case or the victim while police were interviewing him for an unrelated crime.

Both men have court attainment hearings slated for May 12, 2021.
