Vero Beach, FL (April 19, 2019) – Police reported that a 27-year-old man, Gene Lee Franklin II, was arrested on Monday following a standoff with deputies that ended with them shooting into his home.

Franklin has since been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, child endangerment, and various other related charges. He is currently being held on bail in the Indian River County Jail.

Deputies arrived at the scene after a call to Franklin’s home in the Whispering Palms neighborhood around 3:20 p.m. on Monday. Franklin had allegedly been attempting to shoot a neighbor when the two got into an argument.

Franklin immediately barricaded himself in the home with three children when police arrived at his doorstep. Deputies tried to force entry and fired a “less lethal” round through the window, covering him with OC Powder.

Police discovered that Franklin had pulled a gun on a neighbor and fired a gun in the neighbor’s direction before he fled the scene, according to witnesses.

The investigation into this matter continues.
