According to a Miami New Times report, a 46-year-old employee of the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) was arrested on June 30 after trying to flee the country. Currently, no formal charges have been filed against the Florida worker, but the 46 year old may face criminal charges after being accused of having sex with a young girl in foster care who he was assigned to protect. The alleged crimes of the man, a DCF investigator, came to light during an investigation into a prostitution ring involving girls in foster care in which underaged girls from the system were recruited by South Florida pimps to work in a Homestead brothel.
Authorities discovered during the investigation that the DCF worker may have been having sex with one of the girls. The young girl, who has cognitive impairments, would receive text messages from the DCF worker during school, and he would arrange to pick her up from school and the two would later have sex, according to the report. The 46-year-old, who had been on administrative leave since May, attempted to flee the country to the Dominican Republic. However, he was arrested by authorities in New York and officially charged with "five counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor."
