A 27-year-old Alachua County man has been arrested following allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman during intercourse. According to The Gainesville Sun, the Archer man was arrested two days after the alleged incident. The woman claims that she told the man to stop while they were having sex. He then allegedly grabbed her by the throat and forced her to stay. She later fled and called the authorities. He was later apprehended and charged with sexual assault.

Individuals facing sexual assault charges in Florida will need skilled representation because the penalties they face are likely to be severe. Sexual assault is a felony with a required prison sentence unless the judge agrees to a non prison sentence. Additionally, anyone convicted of sexual assault will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his or her life.

Under certain circumstances, the penalties for sexual assault can increase. Additional prison time could result from incidents involving deadly force, children under 12, repeat offenders, disabled victims, or victims who are in the care of the defendant. The resulting penalties may include prison time of up to life.
