Palm Harbor, FL (November 19, 2018) - Pinellas County police arrested an off-duty firefighter late Saturday night for driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to deputies the firefighter, John Walker, 28, was drifting in and out of lanes at almost 20 miles per hour over the legal posted speed limit. He also almost struck another car. The deputy that pulled Walker over noticed that he had a glazed expression and he could smell alcohol coming off of Walker’s breath as well. Walker did agree to perform a series of field sobriety tests but the deputy reported that Walker’s performance on them was very poor. A breathalyzer test indicated that the off-duty fireman had a blood alcohol level of .227%.

Walker was arrested and charged with a single count of driving under the influence. He was taken to Pinellas County Jail. The Palm Harbor Fire Department for which Walker currently works said they will be conducting an investigation into the incident before they decide how to best proceed.
