Pasco County, FL (January 31, 2019) – Police arrested a drunk driver on DUI charges after he crashed into a series of parking poles while dropping off a child at an elementary school.

39-year-old Joshua Philip Starr was arrested for child neglect and DUI with a person under 18. The vehicle accident happened in the parking lot in front of the Wiregrass Elementary School on 29732 Wiregrass School Road on Tuesday morning.

At the time, Starr allegedly ran into three parking poles that separated the sidewalk from the parking lot. Starr told deputies that he had been reaching to grab his child’s backpack when he lost control of the vehicle.

When deputies conducted field sobriety tests, Starr failed. His speed was slurred and he had glassy eyes at the time of the tests.

When the child spoke with deputies, they told them that Starr had been walking into walls and even advised the child not to wear a seatbelt. The crash caused the child to strike his head on the back of the seat. Starr was booked in jail for his actions.
