A 31-year-old male school employee faces three charges of using a computer to seduce a child. According to The Democrat, the Holy Comforter Episcopal School employee was arrested on suspicion of sending graphic emails to a 13-year-old girl. Officials say he was talking to the girl, whom he met through a website, via email. When he arrived at an agreed upon location to meet the alleged victim, he was met by an adult undercover investigator. He faces charges of traveling to meet a minor for sex and three charges of using a computer to seduce a child.

Under Florida law, it is a crime to meet a minor to commit an unlawful sex act. This crime occurs when someone uses a computer to seduce, solicit, entice, or lure someone believed to be a minor for unlawful sex. It is also a crime to travel any distance with the intention of engaging in unlawful sexual conduct with a child in Florida.

These types of charges often involve an undercover officer who was pretending to be a minor, however these instances do not result in lesser charges. Traveling to meet a minor who turns out to be an undercover officer can result in a minimum prison sentence of 21 months of incarceration or a maximum sentence of up to 15 years. Individuals could also face up to 15 years of sex offender probation and $10,000 in fines.
